Happy 4th!

In honor of our nation's birthday, I decided to show you all my favorite ditty from elementary school for remembering the Presidents in order -- performed by my 5th grade class on Flag Day, 1995, no less. (Although my best friend in high school could perform this song effortlessly, much to my envy.)

Without further ado - The President's Rap:

These are the presidents. Mighty, mighty presidents. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

The Father of our Country, George Washington was "one."
"Two" was John Adams, then Thomas Jefferson. Then
was James Madison, and also James Monroe.
And John Quincy Adams was number six, you know.

Andrew Jackson was the seventh in line.
Then Martin Van Buren followed Andy's time.
William Henry Harrison was next at number nine.
John Tyler, James Polk; the states were doin' fine.

Zachary Taylor, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce;
As James Buchanan left, things were getting pretty fierce.
Abraham Lincoln went to war so we could be
One nation living in peace and liberty.

Andrew Johnson was the boss in those days, Then
Ulysses S. Grant, and Rutherford B. Hayes. James A.
Garfield was the twentieth dude,
And Chester A. Arthur showed his aptitude.

Grover Cleveland was the president then.
Then Benjamin Harrison, and Grover went again.
William McKinley demonstrated his skill,
Then Theodore Roosevelt charged up the hill.

The next in line was William Howard Taft.
Then Woodrow Wilson got to try his craft.
Warren G. Harding, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover:
All of them presidential shakers and movers.

Franklin D. Roosevelt, a truly great man,
And Harry S. Truman took the mantle of command.
Dwight D. Eisenhower followed close behind.
And John F Kennedy, whose fate was underlined.

Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford:
All recent presidents that hist'ry will record.
Then Jimmy Carter lived on Pennsylvania Avenue.
And Ronald Reagan lived there, for not one term, but two

In nineteen eighty-eight came a presidential push.
A kinder, gentler nation elected George Bush.
In nineteen ninety-two and in nineteen ninety-six,
We added Bill Clinton to the presidential mix.

Happy 4th, everybody!

Fun-Employment, Chronicled

I don't know if any of you have ever taken time between jobs. I hadn't before last week, and I can now say with certainty that it is a great idea. Speaking as someone who has juggled a blackberry for nearly 6(!) years, handing it in and walking out of the office without one for a whole week was downright liberating.

I spent the first few days of my week off being productive -- doing laundry, running errands, shopping, etc. But then by mid-Wednesday, the desire to lay on the couch and binge-watch Netflix set in, and I finished the entire first season of The Killing in 2 days. (P.S. Anybody else watch The Killing? I MUST KNOW WHO KILLED ROSIE LARSON.)

Once the weekend rolled around, the reality of going back to work set in. To celebrate my final few days of fun-employment, we did it up big this past weekend:

1) Single ladies, take note. Once you co-habitate, your Thursday nights may turn from normal sipping-wine-watching-tv-eating-dinner to "We bought Cranium, and I don't care if it sucks, we are finishing the wine and USING IT EVEN IF IT IS JUST THE TWO OF US DAMNIT."

Triceratops.
2) Friday night we checked off an item on my DC bucket list: make it to Acadiana's Friday Crawfish Boil on time and gorge yourself on seafood. Check.

Beignets

3) Saturday we had tickets to see Tracy Morgan at the Warner Theater. Neither of us had ever been (or really knew about its existence) so we were pleasantly surprised to see how classically beautiful it was on the inside. The show was absolutely hilarious to boot.

4) To cap off the weekend, I took SK on his maiden voyage to H-Mart.

For those of you unfamiliar, H-Mart is an Asian grocery store chain that also sells American products. What this means is that you can get ANYTHING YOU WANT (and it's usually half the price of a regular store.) They have produce I've never even heard of, plus seafood and produce up the wazoo. At one point we actually had a woman take us under her wing and lead us around the frozen foods section, throwing her recommendations into our cart. We now have dumplings to last us for months.

How was your weekend, readers?

xoxo,
b

The Rumors are True

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen me post this earlier this week:

Funemployment on the roof deck...Good Morning Tuesday!
Yes folks, it's really and really true - I left my job of 4 1/2 years last week and will be starting my new job on Monday! And in the mean time, I took the past week off and had some 'me' time (including some mornings on the roof deck with some blogs and iced coffee.)

I've wanted to update for some time now about the details, but haven't been able to spill the beans for a while. Stay tuned for more updates as I move downtown!
